History

Tata Teleservices Limited was founded in the year 1996. Before the Japanese giant NTT Docomo purchased 26 percent of the company in 2008, Tata Teleservices used to operate under the Tata Indicom alias. In 2014, NTT Docomo announced that the company would be selling off 100 percent of their shares in the Tata Teleservices Limited company. This is due to the enormous losses suffered by the company, in the span of the last six years of the partnership. The losses amounted to 1.3 billion. NTT Docomo exited the Indian telecom market business. In 2008, Tata Teleservices also partnered with Virgin Group, to provide CDMA mobile services to their customers. As of 2015, all the customers from the Tata-Virgin CDMA services, have moved over to the Tata Indicom communication services. In the month of October 2017, Tata Teleservices announced an exit plan. The odd 5000 employees will be sacked, with severance packages and six months of the due notice period.
