Royal Enfield History
The Indian Government wanted a suitable motorcycle that could take care of the army soldiers patrolling around the borders. Therefore, in 1955, Madras Motors teamed up with The Royal Enfield company from Redditch and made the Enfield India brand. And thus, the 350cc Royal Enfield Bullet was born. By the year 1962, all the components were being made in India. In the year 1990, the company merged with Eicher Group, and the merger completed by 1994. Due to some problems, production in the Jaipur, Rajasthan plant was ceased, and again in 2013, a new plant was opened in Chennai. Currently, the company sells motorcycles in over 50 different countries all around the world. In the year 20155, the company started its operations in North America and offered three different bikes - the Classic 500, the Bullet 500, and the Continental GT 535 Cafe Racer. The company has a current aim of establishing 100 dealerships in the Americal cities. In the year 2015, the sales of the company domestically, was 50 percent higher than that of 2014, even though the motorcycle market started to decline in India.
