Punjab National Bank History
PNB was established and incorporated in 1895 before India was divided in a place called Lahore. It is regarded as the first commercial institution to be established entirely on Indian capital. Since its inauguration, PNB has acquired many banks at different times. For instance, it acquired Bhagwan Dass Bank in 1940 and later 39 branches of Bharat Bank in 1951 and also Universal Bank of India in1961.
