PayuMoney was founded in the year 2002. The primary way by which PayuMoney have gained access to various countries is by the acquisition of different other payment gateway platforms that were operating in those countries and was included in the PayU group. In the year 2014, the online payment companies that were under the Naspers group started working under the PayU group. In 2016, PayuMoney acquired Citrus Pay in India, for $130 million. In 2011, the company acquired Romanian online payments company, called GECAD e-Payments. PayuMoney started their operations in Europe, from the year 2006. In 2010, the company expanded to the Czech Republic, and in 2011, to Russia, Turkey, Slovakia, and Hungary. The company entered the South African market with the name, PayJar, which was rebranded to PayU in 2011. During that same year, the company was launched in India, by Ibibo, which is an online travel and air aggregator in India.
