Onida was founded in the year 1981. The founders of the company are Vijay Mansukhani and G.L. Mirchandani. In the year 1982, the company started assembling televisions. The factory of Onida was located at Andheri, Mumbai. In the year 1981, the company was first established as Mirc Electronics. The company had achieved almost 100 per cent growth in air conditioners and also microwave ovens as well. The company has a current branch of 33 offices around India. There are about 208 centres for Customer Relations, along with 41 depots as well. As of the year 2005, the company had achieved a capitalisation of almost 3014 million INR. The company also had a received an award from the Government of India, for achieving excellence in electronics.
