About NPS

NPS or commonly known as the New Pension Scheme is a type of pension scheme that relies on a defined contribution system. This scheme has the existing one. The existing one was effective up to the month of December 2003. This is a type of pension scheme that was sorely made for the Government employees, in terms of the payment made by the Government. All the individuals who are under the new plan will have the option to exit on or after 60 years of age. 40 percent of the amount that is to be accumulated as pension should be invested into Government annuity.

NPS History

New Pension Scheme or NPS came into effect from the 1st of January, 2004. This type of pension service was applicable to all Government employees, except armed forces, and have joined the service after 1st January 2004. This scheme is mandatory for all Government employees. The overall monthly contribution was set to be 10 percent all the wages received by the employee, including Dearness Allowance. The contribution was set to be deposited in Tier 1 non-withdrawable account, and the individuals can also set up a Tier II withdrawable account if they want the withdrawal option at their option.
