IRCTC History

Indian Railway was founded in the year 1845. The first proposal to build the Indian Railway was made in the year 1932, in Madras. The first steam locomotive train in India ran for just 34 kilometers. The train ran with fourteen carriages, between the Mumbai and Thane stations, in 1953. Come 1956, and the first passenger train in Southern India ran for 60 kilometers. The first passenger train in eastern India ran in West Bengal. It ran between Howrah, which is near Kolkata, to Hooghly, in the year 1954. Finally, the regions of the Indian Railway were created. These were named Southern, Western and central areas. In the year 1988, the Shatabdi Express was introduced. It ran between Jhansi and New Delhi, which was later extended to Bhopal. In the year 2000, the online website of Indian Railway came into effect, Due to this, from 2002 online train ticket reservations started. It has been announced by the Indian Railway Ministry in 2017, that all trains in India will be electrified by 2022.
