HTC History

HTC or HTC Corporation was founded way back in the year 1997. HTC has now been currently operating for 21 years. HTC first started being an OEM and ODM. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer, and ODM stands for Original Design Manufacturer. It first began designing and manufacturing laptop computers. HTC also used to make various Windows Mobile devices in the mid-2000s, when Windows Mobile was a pretty popular smartphone OS. However, after Android was launched, HTC started making Android smartphones, and its first Android smartphone was the HTC Dream. Even though HTC enjoyed some good years at the helm of smartphone manufacturers, it slowly started to lose market share. As of 2015, its market share globally was 7.2 percent. In 2016, HTC built the Virtual Reality or VR headset, known as the HTC Vive. In 2017, HTC finally sold almost half of its design and research team to Google for nearly $1.1 billion.
