Havells was founded in the year 1958. The founder of the company was Qimat Rai Gupta. The current chairman and managing director of the company are Anil Rai Gupta. The company was started with a capital of 10,000 INR. In the year 1971, the Havells brand was bought from Haveli Ram Gandhi, and the first manufacturing plant of the company was established in New Delhi, Delhi, India. In the year 1999, the company opened their first international office in London, United Kingdom. The first Research and Development centre of the company was established in Noida. In the year 2006, it received the ISI rating. In the year 2013, the company started manufacturing domestic pumps.
