Crompton Greaves was founded in the year 1878. In the year 1927, the company merged with F.A. Parkinson, to form Crompton Parkinson Limited Greaves Cotton and Company. James Greaves then established the company in the year 1859. In the year 1937, the company opened its subsidiary in the city of Bombay, India. In the year 1966, the name of the company was changed to Crompton Greaves. Currently, the company is apart of the Avantha Group, which has a total worth of $4 billion. In the year 2009, the company owned 41 per cent stake in the Avantha Group.
