The City Union Bank was founded in the year 1904. The bank has been operational for 114 years. The first branch of the bank was opened in the year 1930, in the city of Mannargudi. In the year 1954, the bank celebrated its Golden Jubilee year. In the year 1957, the bank had taken over the assets and liabilities of the Common Wealth Bank Limited. In the year 1965, the first branch of the bank was opened in Madras. In the year 1980, the bank opened its offices in Secunderabad and Hyderabad. The name of the bank was changed to City Union Bank Limited, in the year 1987. The bank started dealing with Foreign Exchange, from the year 1990. The bank in the year 2016, launched India's first banking robot named Lakshmi. As of the year 2018, about $2 million was stolen from the bank, by hackers.
