CESC History

CESC was founded in 1989, even though its existence was sculptured way back in the year 1879. The founder of the company was R. P. Goenka. Thus the RPG Group was formed, and CESC came under that group. In the year 1899, the first thermal power plant was established in the area of Princep Ghat in Kolkata, India. In the year 1902, the Calcutta Tramways Company switched using electricity for their trams. The company's headquarters were established in Kolkata in the year 1933. As of the year 2011, the company was brought under the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, who is the youngest son of R. P. Goenka.
