Canara Bank was established as Canara Hindu Permanent Fund by a philanthropist named AmmembalSubba Rao Pai, in 1906. However, following its incorporation in 1910, the bank changed the name to Canara Bank. With strategic management, Canara Bank acquired Kerala Bank in 1961 and Seasia Midland Bank later on. In the same year, following the orders from the Reserve Bank of India, Canara Bank acquired Raghumathmul Bank. In the following years, Canara Bank would acquire many other banks increasing its operations and clientele base.
Canara Bank had another great milestone in 1996 when it acquired ISO certification for Total Branch Banking.
