About BESCOM
BESCOM or Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited is the leading power distributor in almost eight districts of Karnataka. This includes both rural and urban areas of Bangalore, Kolar, Tumkur, Ramanagara, Davanagere, Chitradurga, and Chikkaballapura. BESCOM covers almost about an area of 41,092 sq. Km. It also serves a population of 207 lacs. BESCOM has four operating zones, namely - Bangalore Rural Area Zone, Chitradurga Zone, Bangalore Metropolitan Area Zone (South) and finally Bangalore Metropolitan Area Zone (North). It has a total of 9 circles, 32 set of divisions, around 136 sub-divisions and almost 510 section offices as well.

BESCOM History
There was a massive reform in the Karnataka power sector in the year 1999. That year, the Karnataka Electricity Board or KEB was dissolved. In its place, Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited or KPTCL was developed. In that same year, the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission or KERC was introduced. Then in June 2002, the whole reform process continued, by changing the distribution and transmission channels managed by KPTCL. Four new companies were formed to control the distribution channels. Moreover, then, finally, BESCOM was born, and it took over the responsibilities from KPTCL, and started delivering electricity in 8 districts and started all their operations from 1st June 2002.
