History
Airtel started its operations as a mobile phone network in 1992 following various work and effort by its founder Sunil Mittal. Before he would receive the license to operate, it was demanded that he should have experience in telecom industries. That is when Sunil struck a deal with Vivendi, French telecom company, to get the company license. In New Delhi, the company launched its operations in 1994. Over time, Airtel has acquired many telecom companies to grow its business like Skycell in 2001 and Hexacon in 2005 among others.
A major milestone was the launch of VoLTE technology occurred in about 8 major towns in India and its completion is scheduled to be in August 2018.
